There is an old Chinese proverb that says, “Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still.”
From a day-to-day perspective, we don’t quite notice if we stand still. You don’t sit down every single day and contemplate your life decisions, your friends, family, job, and relationships.
It’s not practical and we can’t see the difference in the results from the previous day. But when you take a look at the bigger period of your life, you can notice the stagnation or growth of it. And there are always crumbs that show the path — the causes which led to these effects.
It’s the people who are around you that make up for the majority of those results. And since you want a better one, this is the list of people that will have a negative effect on your life. It’s time to sit down, take a long, hard look at the following and decide that these people don’t have your best interest in mind.
We start the list with the following:

1. Perpetual Question-Askers:
Imagine that you are playing chess with a friend without actually playing chess.
And he asks you, “Where would your bishop move on the 47th round?”
And you respond, “With all the variables in the mind ... I would smack it on top of your head.”
The best players in the world can see up to eight moves ahead — no more than that.
It’s the same thing in life. You can (and should) plan things in your life. You can create a great plan, but there is no way you can see so clearly in the future that you can anticipate every single problem and deal with every hypothetical situation. It’s simply impossible because there are so many variables.
The point is to look at 3–4 steps ahead and deal with the problems when they come.
People like this are paralyzed by all the possible problems that can occur along the way, so they never make a move. They are always imagining different scenarios in their head without ever doing anything in reality.
This is the domain of “wantrepreneurs.”
Run from these people because they find a problem for every solution in life.
You want to start a business? They ask you if you have a 30-page-long business plan, a scaling strategy, and knowledge of Peruvian law because you will need to enter the Latin American market from that specific country.
It’s people like this who dream of starting a business, writing a book, or leaving that shitty job to pursue their passion that never actually do it.
Too many questions, too few answers, and even less belief in the ability to manage problems when they come along.
And even when you have the answers to these questions, there is the second type of people who will just waste your time because they don’t like the answer.
