It might seem like an impossible problem to solve. However, the solution to fulfilling your potential and working better is easier than you imagine. Let’s start at the beginning and consider what is holding you back right now.
The Power of Your Brain
The emotional side of your brain is what motivates or de-motivates you. If you try and do something that you don’t love then this part of your brain will override your conscious attempts to get the job done. There is no way to “control” or “manage” it.
You can’t force yourself to enjoy doing something you don’t like. Equally, you can’t push the emotional side of your brain out of the way. Actually, you might be able to do this sometimes but this will only be effective for short periods.
This is where the strong urge to look at Facebook or check your emails comes from. Your brain is telling you to do something that you like better than your work. This is an incredibly powerful, primal instinct that you can’t fight off forever.
Therefore, one of the biggest problems people have at work is that they aren’t inspired by it. If you have a job that you aren’t passionate about, then it is far easier to procrastinate or get distracted. You may be constantly fighting against your instincts to try and keep working. But it is a losing battle.
