The carefully crafted line, Common People, was NOT named after the cultish 80’s pop hit by Pulp. Though basic, Common People was named for people with a common interest in quality premium clothing.
Designed by Kestin Hare, the former head of design at Nigel Cabourn (and in his youth, the darling of Kings Road), Hare won a design competition to work for Reiss, while still in college. At the end of his year placement, they offered him a position designing menswear and sponsored his graduation show.
After years of grinding his way through the high-pressure London fashion world, Hare began searching for a way to develop a more fulfilling work-life balance. With a pregnant wife and a desire for more family time, and a bigger backyard, Hare struck out on his own and moved back to his homeland of Scotland. He was hell-bent on a mission to create a high-quality, timeless line of men’s clothing with beautiful and tasteful details. He desired to both support his family and his love of design, while at the same time supporting the local British manufacturing industry — using all local, mostly British materials.
