4 Minimalist Workouts for Busy Guys on the Go

Three or four years ago, before I had kids, spending a few hours in the gym most days per week wasn’t a big deal. In fact, it was something I enjoyed doing.

Most guys who are into muscle and strength and fitness tend to go through a period of time like this where working out becomes a big part of their life. This seems to be especially true for guys who haven’t worked out consistently for most of their lives.

When you start to see the kinds of positive changes that training your body can have, not only on your physical being, but in all areas of life, it can be addicting.

Often, for the first few years of working out, spending a lot of time at the gym is a positive thing. It helps replace older, unhealthy habits with new, healthier ones.

But when your life starts to change — when you start taking on new responsibilities and priorities — the amount of time you dedicate towards fitness changes; or at least it should.

Whether you find yourself too busy to spend a lot of time at the gym, or you identify that there are more important things you could be doing with your time, you have to make some changes.

When you find yourself caught in the balancing act of merging regular, everyday life with the pursuit of a lean, muscular body, you have to find a way to work fitness into your day-to-day experiences in a way that’s sustainable.

You may have discovered — as I have — that there are seasons of life where getting any more than 2–3 workouts in per week seems impossible. And during busy, stressful times like that, going to the gym can make the idea of working out even less appealing.

That’s where minimalist workouts come into play. During periods of life where you are experiencing the most stress and busyness, you need to have an idea about how to set up minimalist workouts that require very little equipment.

Workouts that are simple enough that you don’t even have to go to the gym, and that you can do in your garage or even on a playground to increase the likelihood that you at least do something to stay fit.

Today, I’m going to lay out four minimalist workouts that you can do with no (or very little) equipment. The workouts only take 20–30 minutes, and like I said: can be done almost anywhere.

These are some of the exact workouts that I use whenever I’m going through an especially busy or stressful time of life.
