8 Awesome Tips for People on the Go

Is staying in shape and preserving a healthy, fitness-oriented lifestyle a priority for you?  Is eating good, nutritious food important to you? Do you also travel a lot? Always on the go? Do you hate to miss a workout or have to select your lunch from a vending machine?  If this sounds like you read on…

If you are like me maintaining a healthy lifestyle is easy when you’re at home. You go to your gym, know where to buy your food and supplements, eat at all the healthy spots in town and have everything you need at your fingertips. It can be tough to maintain your healthy lifestyle habits when travelling and away from all familiar routines. I have travelled extensively facing these challenges—the following are key tips I learned to stay on the healthy track when living a busy, on-the-go lifestyle.

MAKE YOUR FOOD

The best way to get healthy food is to prepare it and bring it when you travel. I make a large amount of my regular healthy food combinations packing them to go. A good example is ground turkey or beef (boiled) combined with brown rice,  beans or gluten-free pasta. I will throw salsa or low-sugar and sodium spaghetti sauce into the mix. Baked chicken or fish with sweet potatoes and steamed veggies in large quantities is another great to-go meal.

HAVE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES

When transporting food you will need a large (I prefer soft) cooler bag. These are not expensive and are easy to find. I also recommend getting freezer blocks to keep your food temperature controlled. I keep a separate section of my computer bag for a small food container or dry snacks as well. A shaker cup is good to have to mix protein shakes as quality protein sources can often be hard to find and or expensive when travelling.

I will always bring a small tub of whey protein in my bag. Another great accessory is a small steamer which can be used for steaming veggies, rice, or even boiling chicken breast. Great to set up in your hotel room. A fork and spoon plus a small glass bowl with a lid to store anything you cook along the way will come in handy.
