The Test You Have Not Taken

Why Putting Off a Health Check Is a Decision, Not a Delay

You know last month's revenue. You know what the mortgage costs, what the car is worth, what you weighed on Sunday, what you lifted the last time you were in the gym and how long the run took. There is a figure for almost everything that matters to you and several for things that do not.

The system all of it runs on has never been measured. Not properly, and not recently.

You have not got round to it. That is the phrase, and it is not true.

Not getting round to it is a decision

Getting round to things is not your weakness. You get round to a great deal, most of it less consequential than this, and you do it by deciding to.

Booking a check takes four minutes. You have had four minutes every day for a decade. What you have not had is the willingness, and the two are not the same, though the first is a comfortable place to file the second.

It never feels like a decision because deciding not to know looks identical, from the inside, to not having thought about it. Both leave the week exactly as it was, so nothing arrives to tell you which one you made, and you get to make it again next year without noticing.
