The world is changing and changing fast. Political turmoil, economic and financial uncertainty, not to mention the rapid change in technology and automation are threatening many job categories that once existed. If you think this automation is restricted to just low-skilled jobs, think again. AI is advancing to the point of radically reducing the number of high-skilled individuals needed in work, even in areas related to medical diagnoses, law, and market research, to name a few.
But regardless of the changes happening, there are actions you can take to better prepare yourself and skills you can acquire to prosper in any change.
1. Learning To Learn
This may seem like an obvious statement, but many people do not have the fundamentals in learning. Not understanding how to read efficiently, researching information, as well as studying to retain information and implementing it in their lives.
Learning is a process and the better you understand this, the easier you’ll be able to pick up new skills and abilities to aid you in your journey.
2. Logical and Critical Thinking
Being able to understand your biases and objectively analyze information that comes to you will lead to better decision making. Of course, we all have biases and tend to prefer information that validates and confirms this. This is natural. However, knowing this and being able to look out for it is important.
Critical thinking will help you create some distance between your emotional reactions and what you are observing, so you can plan and make better decisions accordingly.
You’ll also be better positioned to filter out false information and gain a better understanding when others are trying to mislead you.
The increase of us living in a digital world makes this even more pertinent, as it’s never been easier to alter or subvert existing reality into something else.
