Imagine this: You're sitting in a sterile doctor's office, the smell of antiseptic burning your nostrils. The physician walks in, face sombre, clipboard in hand. "I'm sorry," they say, "but we've found something serious. You have six months."
Your world stops. Time freezes. In that moment, every plan you had—the vacation next summer, your child's graduation in two years, retirement—all of it suddenly feels meaningless. You cycle through shock, denial, anger, and crushing sadness in the span of minutes.
Then, mercifully, the phone rings. It's the doctor's office. "There's been a mistake," they tell you. "We mixed up your results with another patient's. You're perfectly healthy."
The wave of relief is indescribable, isn't it? Even though this scenario is hypothetical, I bet you felt a knot in your stomach just reading it. That's because deep down, we all understand a profound truth: health is our most precious asset, yet one we rarely appreciate until it's threatened.

The Invisible Metric of Health
Here's the problem with health—it doesn't show up on your bank statement. It doesn't have a neat numerical value that rises and falls on an app you check daily. It's invisible, intangible, and utterly priceless. And because of this, we often take it completely for granted.
Think about it. When was the last time you woke up, stretched comfortably, breathed easily, and thought, "Wow, I'm wealthy beyond measure because my body works without pain"? Probably never. Yet that simple reality—the absence of illness—is something that countless suffering people would give everything they own to experience.
After a health scare like our hypothetical scenario, people often experience a radical shift in perspective. Suddenly, that promotion doesn't seem so important. The house that felt too small feels perfectly adequate. The irritating colleague becomes easier to tolerate. Why? Because when faced with losing everything, we suddenly realise what "everything" actually is—and it's not our stuff.
