Forging the Indomitable Self

Forging the Indomitable Self

How to Make Yourself an Unstoppable Force of Nature

Robert Schuller once said that tough times never last, but tough people do. And that phrase is true nonetheless, but we don’t want to simply survive the times. We want to be an unstoppable train on the tracks where every single obstacle feels like a fly on the windshield of a car.

We want to build momentum and steamroll through the walls on our tracks. Here is how we can do that.

1. Action Begets Action

I’m a writer and if there is one thing we writers are excellent at, it is procrastination. It could be said that is our expertise. Heck, Steven Pressfield wrote an entire book “The War of Art” on the topic of it, naming the procrastination phenomenon “Resistance.”

I had my fair share of this “writer’s block” and this is the thing I learned.

There is no way around the lack of motivation — you simply must take action. But there is a funny thing I noticed about taking action. Whenever I do take action, after around 10–15 minutes of writing, I start noticing a surge of energy and motivation. It’s like my fingers come alive after the initial warm-up on the keyboard and suddenly, I feel motivated to write.

It’s the thought that action begets action. And the people who have mentioned this beforehand were 100 percent right. Mark Manson, author and writer calls this the “Do Something” principle.

You won’t become unstoppable by only thinking about things. Action in real-life is needed to gain momentum. But what do we need to take action on to become unstoppable? That is the second piece of the puzzle.
